Terms of service
These terms apply to the Shared Pointers companion and the test coordination service operated by Daniel Aherne.
What the app provides
Shared Pointers displays named, coloured visual pointers for people collaborating in a Discord server voice channel. It requires a companion on each participating computer and a running coordinator. Downloads currently cover Windows and an experimental Apple Silicon Mac alpha. It does not provide remote mouse clicks, typing or computer control. It is an independent app and is not made, endorsed or operated by Discord.
Use with permission
Use the app only for lawful, consent-based collaboration. Enable pointers only when you want to participate, respect the presenter’s pause and blocking choices, and follow the rules of the Discord server. Do not use the app to harass people, impersonate others, bypass access controls or interfere with the service. You must be eligible to use Discord and follow its applicable terms and community rules.
You remain in control
The companion starts with pointers disabled. Enabling it lets other enabled companion users in your voice channel point at your shared display. You can pause pointers from the Windows tray or Mac menu bar, block individuals, sign out or quit. The Mac alpha requires separate runtime testing of installation, permissions, alignment and Discord capture. Server administrators control whether the Discord app is installed in their server.
Test-build limitations
This is an early test build. It currently expects the presenter to share an entire selected display and the viewer to open the stream fullscreen in the Discord desktop app. Other layouts and capture methods can misalign or omit pointers. Check pointer alignment before relying on it. Do not use it for safety-critical instructions or tasks that require guaranteed positioning or availability.
The coordination service is hosted on Oracle Cloud at api.pointer.digitalnatives.ie and starts automatically with its server. Availability and features may change as testing continues. There is no uptime or support-response guarantee for this test service. You can stop using the app at any time.
Privacy and third-party components
The privacy policy explains identity, voice metadata, pointer processing, local settings and session storage. Discord’s own services are governed by Discord’s terms. Open-source components retain their respective licences, supplied with the companion download.
Support and reports
Contact @daniel2459 on Discord for help, an issue report, abuse concerns or a privacy request. Never send passwords, app secrets or bot tokens. These test terms do not remove rights that cannot be excluded under applicable law. Updates to these terms will be posted on this page.
